The vast majority of files will need abbreviated information, not including extra information such as profits and losses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>When Are My Annual Accounts Due?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/companieshouse.blog.gov.uk\/2021\/09\/07\/when-and-how-to-file-your-annual-accounts-with-companies-house\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deadline for filing your annual accounts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>9 months after the end of your accounting period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the case even if the date falls on a weekend or bank holiday (this applies to every corporation tax deadline).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that if you miss the deadline for filing your accounts to Companies House, you will be subject to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/annual-accounts\/penalties-for-late-filing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a fine in the range of \u00a3150-\u00a31,500.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This figure is dependent on how much you miss the deadline by.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Sending A Confirmation Statement To Companies House<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your company must also send<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/file-your-confirmation-statement-with-companies-house\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a Confirmation Statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at least once every 12 months, even if your business is not currently receiving any income.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose of this statement is to confirm that the information Companies House holds about your business is all accurate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopefully all information should be correct and if so, all you have to do is \u2018check and confirm\u2019 and then submit the statement. Any incorrect data should be updated <\/span><b>before <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><b>at the same time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as sending your statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other important elements to include in the statement are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Details of your registered office<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Names and addresses of directors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A statement of capital and shareholder information<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company\u2019s SIC code<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A register of \u2018people with significant control\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>When Is My Confirmation Statement Due?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/confirmation-statement-guidance\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your confirmation statement is due either 12 months after your business was formed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or 12 months after you filed your last statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have <\/span><b>14 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after this 12-month mark to submit the statement and it can be delivered either by post, or online via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/idam-ui.company-information.service.gov.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WebFiling.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is that if your statement is overdue, you will not face a penalty fine. However, failing to submit a statement <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at all <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">could see your company dissolved and company directors facing prosecution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Next Step: Submitting A Tax Return To HMRC<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you receive a \u2018notice to deliver a Company Tax Return\u2019 from HMRC you must then complete and submit a return. This states how much tax is due to be paid by your business, and must be filed even if you have made a loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The return should include calculations of your profit or loss for Corporation Tax, and you will also need to work out your Corporation Tax bill. An accountancy firm can be useful here in preparing and filing your tax return for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/corporation-tax-accounting-period\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The longest time a tax return can cover is 12 months.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If your accounting period is longer, make sure to file two tax returns for this period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>What Is The Deadline For My Tax Return ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like your confirmation statement, your tax return is also due 12 months after the end of your accounting period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you might expect, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/company-tax-returns\/penalties-for-late-filing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there are fines for filing late<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are 1 day late you will be issued with a \u00a3100 fine<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 3 months late requires a further \u00a3100 to be paid<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filing your return six months late means that HMRC will estimate your corporation tax bill and add 10% of the bill as a penalty<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12 months late then adds another 10% of the tax liability<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Lastly: Paying Your Corporation Tax Bill<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any business registered as a limited company is legally required to pay corporation tax on any profits, investments and chargeable gains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The corporation tax rate for limited liability firms with profits of <\/span><b>\u00a3250,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and over is now <\/span><b>25%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of taxable profits, after<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/taxsummaries.pwc.com\/united-kingdom\/corporate\/taxes-on-corporate-income\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> increasing from 19% in April of this year.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your business makes profits up to<\/span><b> \u00a350,000, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you will continue to pay corporation tax at 19%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Companies with profits between those two figures are subject to a tapered rate, based on how much Marginal Relief they can claim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udca1Tip: The government\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/corporation-tax-marginal-relief\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marginal Relief calculator <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can help you work this out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember also that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ced80ae4-e419-11e7-8b99-0191e45377ec\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HMRC has now stopped accepting payments via personal credit card.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Corporation Tax Deadlines<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corporation tax must be paid <\/span><b>9 months and 1 day <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after the end of your accounting period. You can actually check your company\u2019s accounting period by signing in to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/corporation-tax-accounting-period\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HMRC\u2019s online service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your corporation tax is paid late, or not at all, you will be charged interest from the day after the tax should have been paid.
